Easter Family Fun Day

23rd March 2024

On Saturday 23rd March we decided to share the Easter celebration by inviting local families to a morning of free, fun activities. Two hundred and eighty folk of all ages: grannies and parents, toddlers and teenagers, flooded in  to DBCC to enjoy coffee and cake, and chocolate fountains, in the Cornerstone Cafe. Face painting and two bouncy castles delighted the younger children in the auditorium, and in the sports hall, a range of activities, including craftwork, tower building, table tennis, tin can alley, a lucky dip and an Easter egg hunt involved scores of youngsters.

The morning finished with a short puppet show explaining the Christian message of Easter. ‘Easter reminds us that we can celebrate because there is hope, new life and a fresh start in Jesus Christ the Saviour,’ said Pastor Eoghan Paterson. ‘At least 40 church volunteers had been planning, preparing and praying for many weeks, so we were all delighted to see so many families having lots of fun together and hearing the life-changing message.’

The next event will be on a much smaller scale: a mini-Alpha course, running on three lunchtimes in May. These interactive sessions offer anyone who is curious about the big issues of life and faith the chance to explore them in a friendly, informal group. Anyone interested can contact the church office (01387 268926 weekday mornings).

Summer Mission 2023: The Big Top

5th August 2023

A very big thank you to all who participated in the summer mission this year and for all who prayed! We’ve had a wonderful time with all age groups in seeing God’s mighty power at work among us and in people’s hearts in so many ways. Everyone has worked so hard. It’s been so encouraging to see the great variety of gifts being used in our own church family. We’re also very thankful for Brian and Jenny, from MAD Ministries,  who’ve partnered with us again this year in sharing the gospel with our community.

Appeal Fund Update - the debt has been paid!

5th June 2023

We are rejoicing that with God's help we can report than in June 2024 we have repaid the outstanding debt on the Church Building Project! We are so thankful to all who have given to support the Building project over the last seven years and for the loans provided.

“But who am I, and who are my people, that we should be able to give as generously as this? Everything comes from you, and we have given you only what comes from your hand." 1 Chronicles 29:14

Celebrating the 150th Anniversary

21st November 2022

Dumfries Baptist Church was founded in 1872, and all this year – beginning and ending with a week of prayer − the church family celebrates their 150th Anniversary. On Saturday 19th Nov, some 280 folk from Dumfries, and further afield, gathered in the church centre at Gillbrae for a Thanksgiving Service, followed by afternoon tea. It was a deeply moving occasion, joyful in its focus on the goodness and faithfulness of God through the years, and at times sad, as those who had gone before were remembered. A musical group and over twenty others took part, some present, some via short videos. There was emphasis on both the local and global impact of the church over the years.

Big Feast at Dumfries Baptist Church

24th July 2022

From 17-24 July, Dumfries Baptist Church ran children’s clubs and events for all ages with a Big Feast theme. Each morning, from Monday-Friday, about 55 primary-age children enjoyed stories, crafts, songs and team games. In the hot sun, water games were especially popular. A small team from Mad Ministries, a charity based in Hamilton, told a bible story each morning, using puppets and magic tricks to keep their audience spellbound. The church has run holiday clubs for many years, but for the first time, pre-schoolers and their parents had their own club. One father said, ‘I took the week off work to come. It’s been fantastic! It’s been great to do arts and crafts and games with my two small children every morning.’ A Cream Tea on the Wednesday afternoon drew 114 Seniors, who were treated to dainty sandwiches, scones, shortbread, profiteroles and strawberry tarts, and held rapt by the moving stories of two of the Mad Ministry team, whose lives have been dramatically changed by encounters with Jesus. Over 90 people came to the Family Fun Night on Thursday to enjoy a bouncy castle, face painting, balloon modelling, family challenges and, of course, lots of good food from the Cornerstone Café.

Eoghan Paterson, Associate Pastor, commented, ‘We’re thrilled that so many church members have been involved in leading and in helping behind the scenes, and especially that so many from our youth group have risen to the challenge. God invites us all to discover his love and forgiveness. We’re praying that many who came will taste and see that the Lord is good.’

Church and schools celebrate anniversary with kindness

15th July 2022

We are celebrating the 150th anniversary this year with acts of kindness.  Associate Pastor Eoghan Paterson, Chaplain to the nearby Calside, Georgetown and Noblehill Primary Schools, invited the schools to join in by expressing kindness in practical ways. Children from Georgetown Primary picked up litter, planted the flower beds at Georgetown Library to create colourful displays and provided dog poo dispensers. At Calside Primary the children painted colourful pictures to decorate their boundary fence and cheer up passers-by. The schools participated with such commitment that Dumfries Baptist Church has awarded each with a trophy, congratulating them on their work in the community.  Eoghan says, ‘For 150 years, this church has experienced the love and kindness of God, and so we want to demonstrate that kindness. I daily see members of the fellowship doing so in countless ways, from hosting Ukrainian refugees to helping neighbours. During the first lockdown we started a weekly food parcel project for local families who have been hard hit. Every Thursday morning, a small team still meets in the church to pack the boxes with basics and treats, and then delivers them. So far, over eighty families have benefited, either regularly or with a one-off gift. At Christmas, Georgetown pupils contributed many bags of food to help us. It’s such a joy to be working with local schools to make this an even better place to live.’

Increased attendance at worship services from 2nd May 2021

24th April 2021

On Tuesday 20th April the Scottish devolved government confirmed increased numbers will be allowed for gathered worship from Monday 26th April. This means that churches are now allowed to determine numbers for gathered worship based upon the size of their worship space. Two metre social distancing and face coverings are required, and communal singing is still not allowed.

We can fit 100 into the Auditorium and still satisfy all existing Covid19 regulations. 0-5 year olds are not counted within the number we can accommodate as long as they do not require a seat. We will therefore be offering 100 places for both the 9am and 11am services from Sunday 2nd May.

If you have already been attending the 9am service please continue to do so. Please remember that the 11am service has the provision of children’s ministry through the DBC Discoverers. Although the 11am service is not limited to young families only, we would ask that that you keep this in mind when booking place(s).

Please book your seat(s) in good time every week for either service and don’t feel worried about capacity and stopping others from getting a seat. If we reach capacity we may ask those who have been to a service regularly to skip a week.  You can book places for either service by phoning the church office on 01387 268926 or by email at OR you can also book a place at either service on EventBrite at

Increased attendance at worship services from 2nd May 2021

Sunday services

2nd April 2021

From Sunday 11th April 2021 we will be offering two morning services at DBC. This is to provide as much opportunity as possible for gathered worship on a Sunday morning. So until the COVID19 regulations allow us significantly more than 50 people to gather for worship at one time we will have back to back services on a Sunday morning.
The first service each week will be at 9am and the second at 11am. This is to provide space between services for our tech and sound teams and also to provide enough time for people to leave after the first service. If you book to come to the 11am service please do not arrive at the Church Centre before 10.30am.
The DBC Discoverers Children’s Ministry will be provided at the 11am but not the 9am service. Only the 11am service will be live-streamed. Communion will alternate each week between both services.
You can book places for either service by phoning the church office on 01387 268926 or by email at OR you can also book a place at either service on EventBrite at…
It would be great to fill both services every week, so please book in and plan to gather with others for worship.

T'rrific Tractor

23rd July 2020

The volunteer gardeners have been busy over lockdown keeping on top of the weeds and grass cutting at the church centre.  However, in June, we were blessed to hear that the church was awarded a grant from the Annandale and Nithsdale Community Benefit Fund (administered by Foundation Scotland) to purchase a Lawn Tractor for maintenance of the church centre grounds. The grant was for 75% of the cost of the mower and the Deacons kindly agreed that the church pay the shortfall to allow the purchase to go ahead as soon as possible. Fundraising for the shortfall will take place in due course. So at the end of June, we took delivery of the new mower, bought locally from Lloyd Honda.  At a time when the volunteer gardening team has necessarily been reduced due to shielding and other health concerns, the purchase of the tractor to help with grass cutting has been a huge boost. The new mower has hugely reduced both the time and physical effort involved. The centre grounds continue to be used by the general public for walking and exercise, therefore it has been important to be able to continue to maintain the grounds for amenity value. Many thanks to ANCBC, the DBC funding team for their work on the application, Phil for all his help with H&S requirements, Gibbie for arranging quotes, demo and purchase of the mower and to all our volunteer gardeners for their hard work in maintaining the centre grounds all year round. The mower even has a temporary number plate:

IS 40:8 DBC "The grass withers and flowers fall but word of our God endures forever."

Toilet Twinning @ DBCC

27th October 2019

Earlier this year at DBC we were challenged to raise money so that we could twin the toilets at DBCC to help fund a project in a poor community that will enable families to build a basic toilet, have access to clean water and learn about hygiene – a vital combination that saves lives. The DBC congregation, church ministry groups and several of the centre user groups including Slimming World and Tai Chi all raised money to help us twin all 14 of the centre toilets! This is a fantastic achievement and will make a huge difference to communities in Africa and Asia. The Toilet Twinning certificates will be installed in each of the centre toilets in coming days! Find out more at

Volunteer Appreciation Evening 2019

21st June 2019

Our first Volunteer Appreciation Evening in the new church centre provided opportunity for the paid staff at DBC (both pastoral and centre staff) to say thank you to all our volunteers who serve in so many different ways week in and week out. Less than half our volunteers were able to attend due to other commitments but we remembered them all.  It was a great evening of thanksgiving not only to our volunteers but most importantly to the Lord Jesus Christ.  Our faith in Jesus Christ stands front and centre of all that we do at DBC.

In Jesus own words; “I have come not to be served but to serve and to give my life as a ransom for many” - Matthew 20:28.

At DBC we seek to serve Jesus Christ first in all things and in doing so we serve others in Jesus name.

Friendship Hour 25th Anniversary

16th May 2019

Thursday 16th May 2019 marked the 25th anniversary of the "birth" of Friendship Hour at Dumfries Baptist Church.  Well over 40 gathered in the Avenue Room to welcome special guests Willie and Ena Wright who had started this meeting for senior folks back in Newall Terrace.  Willie's talk entertained, encouraged and then challenged us to keep on serving the Lord and reaching out to others.  We then enjoyed an excellent tea with time to remember, laugh and rejoice together.

Retirement of Rev David White

27th April 2019

David White joined the DBC pastoral team as our Associate Pastor in June 2014.  We held a special ceilidh on Saturday 27th April 2019 to mark his retirement and to thank him for his service with us at DBC.  We had a great evening, music led by Whigmaleerie and an amazing buffet provided by the church family. On Sunday morning, we prayed with David and Paula and David was presented with a gift from the church family as he starts his retirement.

'I thank God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus' Philippians 1v3-6.

First anniversary gift

25th March 2019

We are celebrating and give thanks to God on this the anniversary of the first worship service in the new building. Special thanks to Kate and Katie who made a beautiful mosaic cross to celebrate our first anniversary! The girls collected broken pieces of pottery from the ground at the back of the church, before the new turf was laid, and formed the pieces into a clay cross. It represents how God can bring together all that is broken in our lives through the work of the Cross. This beautiful gift will be hung in the Church office and will be a reminder that the Cross of Jesus stands at the centre of all that we believe and all that we do as a church family.

We had a very special final morning service in our Newall Terrace building today. There were tears and joy in equal measure, and above all, thankfulness to God for all his goodness and faithfulness to us over the years.

We were reminded from God ‘s Word that though we are excited about our new address from next Sunday morning, ultimately the Gillbrae Road is not our final destination!

“Our citizenship is in heaven. And we eagerly await a Saviour from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body” - Philippians 3:20-21.

Thanks also to David Currie for reminding us in song to, “Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight” - Proverbs 5:5-6.

As we move forward we do so together as a people! At the end of the day a building is nothing much without people to fill it! The church is made of living stones.

To God be the glory, great things he has done, is doing and I trust will do in the years to come.
